The Florida Department of Health in Manatee County issued a “no swim” advisory for the Palma Sola South beach along the Palma Sola Causeway on Manatee Avenue/State Road 64.
The notice was issued July 1 — the Friday before the long Fourth of July weekend.
Other beaches located in Manatee County were not under an advisory.
The advisory indicates water contact might pose an increased risk of infectious diseases to humans.
Health department officials issued the notice after samples taken June 27 and June 29 showed elevated levels of enterococci bacteria.
An advisory also was issued in June after similar sample results — and was lifted.
The advisory will be in effect until the water meets U.S. Environmental Protection Agency safety guidelines.
