The red tide organism, Karenia brevis, was detected in Southwest Florida during the week ending May 7.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reported K. brevis was observed at background concentrations in Manatee County, background to low concentrations in and offshore of Pinellas County and background to low concentrations in and offshore of Sarasota County.
There were no reports of fish kills or respiratory irritation for Manatee.
