Maria Azerli
Maria Azerli, 80, of Holmes Beach, died Oct. 18.
Mrs. Azerli was born in Austria and moved to Chicago in 1961. She retired in 1982 to Holmes Beach.
A service will be held at a later date at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Holmes Beach.
Mrs. Azerli is survived by son Ben and wife Penny of Holmes Beach.
Margaret (Moddie) Hawkins Dieffenbach
Margaret (Moddie) Hawkins Dieffenbach, 82, of Virginia Beach and Holmes Beach, died Nov. 1. She was born in the Chicago area on Nov. 11, 1928.
She attended Mills College in Oakland, Calif., and the University of California at Berkeley.
She was involved in politics and the Democratic Party, having helped several congressional and senate campaigns in Colora and Maryland, where she lived in the 1960s and 1970s.
Mrs. Dieffenbach retired from Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters in 1992, where she was the patient representative. She was a longtime winter resident of Westbay Point and Moorings in Holmes Beach and was active in several bridge clubs on Anna Maria Island.
Friends were welcome to attend a celebration of life for Mrs. Dieffenbach at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the Dieffenbach residence. Memorial donations may be made to the Anna Maria Island Community Center, P.O. Box 253, Anna Maria FL 34216.
Mrs. Dieffenbach is survived by her husband of 60 years, Philip; brother Herbert Hawkins of San Anselmo, Calif.; sons Dr. Carl and wife Ann of Bethesda, Md., and David and wife Cynthia of Silver Spring, Md.; daughters Louise and husband Randall Bayles of Virginia Beach, Va., and Dr. Ann and husband Ben Wolf of Lexington, Mass.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Charlotte Bell Miner
Charlotte Bell Miner, 92, died Nov. 1, 2011.
She was a former Washingtonian living for more than 60 years in the Brookland community and a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. She also was chief statistician for exports at the U. S. Census Bureau.
A memorial service will be held on a date to be announced at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 248 S. Harbor Drive, Holmes Beach. Memorial donations may be made to Go Beyond Your Knowledge Fund Inc., P.O. Box 725048, Atlanta GA 31139, an educational charity for children run by Mrs. Miner’s granddaughters.
Mrs. Miner is survived by son William; daughters Charlotte McPherson, Grace Moss and Cindy; son-in-law Orby; daughter-in-law Allison; grandchildren Will, Ava Miner, Courtney Moss, Tracy Moss and Herbert Watson Jr., and Cory and Kendyl Moss; and six great-grandchildren.
