Holmes Beach police arrested a 16-year-old female on June 6 on a third-degree felony charge for grand theft of a motor vehicle.
The teen, whose name was withheld due to her age, also faces a first-degree misdemeanor charge for alleged possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana without a medical license.
The teen was a passenger in a vehicle identified by the city’s license plate recognition system as stolen out of Polk County.
During a traffic stop, a man, who was on felony probation and had a suspended license, admitted to driving the vehicle, but said he did not know it was stolen.
He was arrested for driving with a suspended license and violating probation.
The juvenile said she took the vehicle from its registered owner without permission the night before and drove to Palmetto, according to a police report.
The key fob for the vehicle was attached to the juvenile’s purse, which contained 2.7 grams of marijuana, according to police.
The juvenile, also on felony probation, was transported to the Manatee Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
If convicted, punishment for a third-degree felony includes up to five years in prison.
Punishment for a first-degree misdemeanor includes up to one year in prison.
