Drive-time tracks

Spending more time in the auto these days with the closure of the Anna Maria Island Bridge and a detour to Cortez Road?

The Islander invites you to share your favorite drive-time tunes. Provide us a list with 10 tracks you think other motorists should download from iTunes, load up on iPods or burn to a disc.

Here is Islander graphic designer Jon Sachtjen’s music for an Island traffic jam:

1. “Mama Told Me Not to Come,” Three Dog Night.

2. “Hey Baby,” J.J. Cale.

3. “Soul Meets Body,” Death Cab for Cutie.

4. “Watching the Wheels,” John Lennon.

5. “Some Girls,” The Rolling Stones.

6. “Run for your life,” The Beatles.

7. “Mansard Roof,” Vampire Weekend.

8. “Walls No. 3,” Tom Petty.

9. “Suite Judy Blue Eyes,” CSN.

10. Anything from “Pet Sounds,” The Beach Boys.

Send your list of 10 tracks to The Islander via e-mail to, or via mail to 5404 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach FL 34217. Please include your name, address and a contact number. And, if you really want to impress us, maybe enclose a CD.
