Anna Maria city attorney Jim Dye and city commissioners will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, in a shade meeting to discuss two lawsuits against the city brought by Richard Friday of Park Avenue and Stephen Walker of Park Avenue, both regarding a portion of the Banyan Tree development on Park Avenue in the city.
Both lawsuits involve the conservation zone created by the 2007 comprehensive plan and are related to each other, hence the need to discuss both at the same time, Dye said at the commission’s Aug. 4 budget work session.
Shade meetings are those meetings exempt from the Florida Government-in-the-Sunshine open meeting laws in order for officials to discuss pending litigation. The minutes of the meeting become public once the legal matter is settled or resolved.
