The Bradenton Beach Planning and Zoning Board at its Aug. 2 meeting recommended approval of a proposal from the Bridge Street Bistro restaurant on Bridge Street to create an open-air dining room in the downstairs parking garage.
The area already is in use as a bar, entertainment and dining area based on the city’s temporary approval.
But the recommendation to the city commission came with a number of stipulations and concerns, particularly about the loss of 11 parking spaces.
There also was concern about landscaping, sanitation and the use of a portable pizza oven with an open flame.
The board stipulated that all equipment had to be “in grade” to meet city code requirements and Federal Emergency Management Agency flood-plain regulations.
If the P&Z stipulations are met, commissioners will be asked to approved an amendment to the planned unit development that created the structure that houses the restaurant, as well as the Bridgewalk motel and shops.
The restaurant now operates the Island Time Bar and Grill in what was a parking area and provides limited dining service from its upstairs kitchen. Under the proposed amendment, cooking also would be allowed downstairs.
The city commission will take up the plan at its meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at city hall, 107 Gulf Drive N.
