Sunshine State shark attacks

The International Shark Attack File, a database managed by the University of Florida’s ichthyology department, shows four confirmed shark attacks for Manatee County since 1882.

The database doesn’t reflect the most recent incident, which involved a bull shark biting 21-year-old Charles “C.J.” Wickersham of Longboat Key on Sept. 24.

There have been 623 shark attacks confirmed in Florida waters since 1882, including 11 fatal attacks.
