Life isn’t quite as sweet for one Holmes Beach homeowner.
According to the Holmes Beach Police Department, a resident of 81st Street in Holmes Beach had an entire colony of honeybees stolen from her property during the night of June 6.
The suspect allegedly gained access through the pool gate and stole bee-keeping equipment as well as an entire bee colony.
The property owner told the HBPD the suspect took the hive, containing worker bees and the queen, according to the police report.
A friend noticed the bees missing when she visited the home around 3 p.m. to let the victim’s dog out.
The victim told police the person responsible for the burglary would have to have knowledge of bees and possibly own a protective bee suit.
The victim said she suspects a man who used to help her care for the bees. She said he became confrontational after she fired him, and he was the only other person aware of her bee colony.
The incident remains under investigation.
