Want to dump some ice-cold water on your local sheriff’s deputy?
Here’s your chance.
Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Paul Davis, the officer in charge of MCSO-Anna Maria substation, has accepted a challenge from Holmes Beach Police Chief Bill Tokajer to take the Ice Bucket Challenge to benefit the fight against ALS.
However, Davis is giving the community the opportunity to donate to the cause to determine who will get to dump the ice on his head.
“I’m happy to accept Chief Tokajer’s challenge, and I’m giving everyone a chance to dump a bucket of ice over my head,” Sgt. Davis said.
For every dollar up to $20 donated to the challenge, a ticket for a chance to dump the ice on Davis’ head is awarded.
With a $20 donation, the donor receives 30 tickets and a $50 donation gets the donor 100 tickets in the drawing.
Donations are accepted at Anna Maria City Hall, 10005 Gulf Drive, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The drawing for the winner and the actual dumping of the ice water over Davis’ head will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at the entrance to the Anna Maria City Pier.
Davis asked that donation checks be made payable to Manatee Sunrise Kiwanis Foundation. The foundation said 100 percent of the donations will go to ALS research.
The chosen “dumper” must be present at the drawing to get the opportunity to “ice the sheriff,” he said.
“Please make a donation and help make a difference in the fight against this disease,” Davis said.
ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a degenerative muscular disease also known as “Lou Gehrig’s disease.” The Hall-of-Fame baseball player died from ALS in 1941.
