Gia Lancaster, the Bradenton Beach city clerk fired Oct. 23 by a city commission vote, was arrested two days earlier for alleged battery against a Bradenton police officer.
At about 8 p.m. on Oct. 21, the officer responded to a call to her apartment in the 300 block of 26th Avenue West in Bradenton.
According to the officer’s probable cause affidavit, he spoke to two witnesses, one of whom said Lancaster, 47, had been drinking all day, and they had paid her money to stay in the apartment.
Outside the apartment, Lancaster allegedly told the officer she wanted the witnesses out, and the officer advised her of a civil eviction.
Lancaster then began yelling and screaming and returned to the apartment, the report said.
The report said the police officer knocked on the door, Lancaster opened it and began yelling and pointing a finger in Officer Frank Coleman’s face.
Lancaster also allegedly threatened the witnesses, saying if they stayed she “is going to kill them,” according to the report.
Coleman escorted Lancaster outside and attempted to calm her down, but she allegedly became belligerent again and went back inside.
Coleman reportedly followed and stood between the witnesses and Lancaster.
According to the report, she then charged the officer, striking him in the upper chest area and knocking him back.
Coleman arrested Lancaster and booked her at the Manatee County jail.
On Oct. 22, 12th Circuit Court John F. Lakin appointed Lancaster a public defender and ordered her supervised release from jail.
A court date of 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, is set for Lancaster’s arraignment at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
