Spring Avenue 911-caller faces drug charges

A 19-year-old Bradenton man was arrested Oct. 18 in the 100 block of Spring Avenue after he called police about a homeless man sleeping in his car.

Joseph Robert Flinn was arrested on charges of possessing 78 grams of marijuana with the intent to sell, a third-degree felony, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.

The first deputy on the scene advised the suspect he smelled a strong odor of cannabis in the vehicle and had probable cause to arrest him, according to the report.

The deputy called for backup after Flinn reportedly told the officer there was none in the vehicle.

The report said after the second deputy arrived, the suspect produced a black-and-gray backpack, a mason jar three-quarters full of a green, leafy substance and plastic bags.

The deputies also allegedly found the suspect carrying $1,215 in mostly $20 bills, and a small amount of the green, leafy substance in his back pocket.

The report said the substance was taken to the district station, where it tested positive.

Flinn posted a $1,500 bond and was released.

His arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
