The woman who bit a policeman outside a Bradenton Beach bar pleaded no contest and received probation for resisting arrest and battery on a police officer.
Kaitlin Marie Pettigrew, 23, of Bradenton, was sentenced by 12th Circuit Judge Edward Nickolas to 24 months of probation — with a court review and possibility of early termination after 12 months — for the two third-degree felony counts, according to a probation order filed in September.
Adjudication on the charges is withheld, according to the order.
Pettigrew fought with Bradenton Beach Police Department officers March 28 outside the Sports Lounge, 100 Bridge St., after officers observed Pettigrew agitated and arguing with a man. The officers attempted to restrain her, according to police reports.
Pettigrew bit BBPD Officer John Tsakiri’s arm and broke out of the handcuffs police placed on her, according to sworn statements by Tsakiri and several witnesses.
During the arrest, BBPD Sgt. James Gill sustained a broken knuckle, according to his affidavit.
Officers originally charged Pettigrew with an additional battery on a police officer and disorderly intoxication — charges not pressed by prosecutors.
Pettigrew reportedly told police she had been celebrating a new job and had four beers.
Special conditions of Pettigrew’s probation include restitution to the Florida Municipal Insurance Trust for $3,465.72, and to Tsakiri for $143.
According to the probation order, Pettigrew also is required to write an apology letter to the BBPD officers and complete 100 hours of community service.
The order also provides for a possible transfer of court supervision to Indiana.
