The former Bradenton Beach city clerk arrested Oct. 21 for allegedly battering a Bradenton police officer has moved from Manatee County.
Gia Lancaster, fired by a unanimous city commission vote Oct. 23, wrote to 12th Judicial Circuit Judge John F. Lakin, requesting a hearing to modify her supervised release and to allow her to reside in Titusville in Brevard County.
She filed the letter and a separate court notice Nov. 7, indicating — in an apparent violation of her court-ordered supervised release — she’d already moved to the Titusville address.
In the letter, she told the court she was evicted from her Bradenton address after her employment was terminated.
Asked whether the move to the east coast was a violation of her supervised release, Lancaster’s attorney, Assistant Public Defender Maria Chuquizuta, and April Heuss, the supervised release division chief and officer assigned to Lancaster’s case, refused to comment.
Lancaster’s run-in with a Bradenton police officer began at an apartment in the 300 block of 26th Avenue West, Bradenton.
There, she argued with two people who said they paid her money to share the apartment. She allegedly became belligerent and struck the officer in the chest. The officer arrested Lancaster and booked her into the Manatee County jail.
She was released Oct. 22 on the condition she “not leave Manatee, Sarasota or their contiguous counties.”
The supervised release order also requires her to report to a Manatee County release officer, who is authorized to visit her residence and job site.
The assistant state attorney assigned to the case, Keith Humphrey, was out of town and unavailable for comment.
At press time, the court website did not indicate the result of a Nov. 7 court date set for Lancaster’s arraignment, or any action on her modification request.
