Newcomers oust incumbents in WMFR election

The West Manatee Fire Rescue District commission election saw both challengers take seats from incumbent.

Incumbent Scott Ricci fell to challenger George Harris, 5,636 to 4,895 votes, while incumbent Larry Tyler Jr. lost his seat by 78 votes to former Holmes Beach City Commissioner Al Robinson, 5,307 to 5,229.

The vote differential was not within the required percentage to trigger a recount, according to Scott Farrington of the Manatee County Supervisor of Elections Office.

“We didn’t have any recounts in Manatee County. Several races were close, but none came within the requirement” to force a recount, he said.

The Nov. 4 election will be certified by the SOE on Nov. 17.

The WMFR district swearing-in ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at the district’s administration building, 6417 Third Ave. W., Bradenton.
