Burglary to an occupied dwelling with a battery is the charge against a 33-year-old Holmes Beach man who broke into a home and attacked a neighbor.
Holmes Beach Police Department arrested Steven Michael LaParl at his residence in the 6300 block of Holmes Boulevard at about 2 a.m. Jan. 13. HBPD arrested him for a first-degree felony, according to Officer Steve Ogline’s probable cause affidavit.
LaParl entered his neighbor’s home through an upstairs sliding-glass door, after trying but failing to gain entry downstairs, and forced a bedroom door inward toward the victim, who was leaning against the locked door, according to Ogline’s affidavit.
LaParl allegedly yelled he was going to kill the neighbor and his roommate before striking the victim, who sustained injuries to his stomach and knee.
The neighbor told police he slid from under LaParl, fled on foot and called 911 while hiding in the bushes.
Emergency personnel treated LaParl for a minor nose bleed before he was booked into the Manatee County jail.
Ogline interviewed the suspect’s live-in girlfriend, and according to his report, she said LaParl had come home, saying someone hit him with a board.
The victim said LaParl was intoxicated and hit his head on a glass nightstand during the attack, according to Ogline’s report.
LaParl was released from jail on a $20,000 bond later the same day.
His arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton before 12th Judicial Circuit Judge Deno G. Economou.
