BB&T defers center’s principal payments

BB&T, the bank that holds the Anna Maria Island Community Center’s mortgage, agreed to defer principal payments on the center’s mortgage for six months.

Center board member Mike Coleman praised the assistance of BB&T and the work of its representative, Jonathan Schneider. Coleman said he approached the bank nearly three months ago to discuss mortgage options for the center and has since received nothing but support.

As a result, Coleman said the center will save about $3,000 per month during the six-month period.

This, he said, will allow the center and its 17-member board to focus on making better use of center facilities, managing cash flow and costs and creating a self-sustaining nonprofit.

Coleman said he hopes that in the near future donations will be used primarily for capital improvements rather than operational costs.
