Did you know? Many island roadways lack designated paths for bicyclists and this means motorists and cyclists share the road — unless they’re peddling on the sidewalk. And when sharing the road, the cyclist has the right of first-come, first-served and the full use of a lane.
The Florida Department of Transportation encourages motorists to slow down and use caution.
The DOT has issued the following alert for driving in the area:
• State Road 684/Cortez Road at the Cortez Bridge, from east of Gulf Drive to west of 127th Street West: Crews will work on the bridge piles and pile covers, install bridge span hatches and complete electric work in the bridge-tender house. Work on the bridge includes general maintenance and repairs to the span, beams, piling, seawall and bridge-tender house.
