Barbara Thornhill Callaghan
Barbara Thornhill Callaghan, 77, of Holmes Beach and formerly of Long Island, New York, died Feb. 3.
She was born Sept. 26, 1937, in Greenport, New York, to the late Winifred J. and Harold Thornhill Sr.
Mrs. Callaghan graduated from Greenport High School and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SUNY in Albany, New York. She taught business classes at North Babylon High School and was a professor in the business division at Suffolk County Community College. She received recognition from the State University of New York with the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. She authored a secretarial curriculum and was an expert proofreader.
She volunteered for and supported many causes and traveled extensively, especially on cruise ships. Mrs. Callaghan had a great passion for football and was a “Gator Mom.” In Florida she was involved in her church fundraising activities, the Anna Maria Island Garden Club, a book club and many other social endeavors.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Joseph F.; daughter Megan and husband Lucas Haney and grandchild Cassidy Jo Haney; step-children Marie and husband Bill Pyne, Joseph and George; grandchildren Suzanne Pyne, Jacqueline and husband Pat Amato and Jessica and husband Edward Stewart; great-grandchildren Anthony Amato and Eddie and Carly Stewart. She also is survived by siblings Frank and wife Edy Thornhill, Harold Jr. and wife Joan Thornhill and Ann Felli; brothers-in-law Paul Callaghan, James and wife Jo Anne Callaghan and Matthew and wife Margo Callaghan; sisters-in-law Mary and husband Chuck Stealey and Martha Callaghan; aunt Margaret Kroleski and 20 nieces and nephews.
Clyde Vance Dutton
Clyde Vance Dutton, 85, of Bradenton, died Jan. 31.
He was born Sept. 26, 1929, had lived in the Bradenton area since 1994 and was formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana.
He was a kind and good man, a broadcaster with WTTV in Indianapolis and known for being “brilliant in the basics” in the industry.
After retiring to Anna Maria, he enjoyed helping his wife, Ginny, in her island businesses, Ginny’s Antiques and Ginny’s and Jane E’s at the Old IGA. He enjoyed having lunch daily at the Old IGA, fishing, boating and golf.

Dale Russell Redeker
Dale Russell Redeker, 84, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Anna Maria Island, died Feb. 8.
Mr. Redeker was born in Kalamazoo to E.J. and Ida (Dykstra) Redeker. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1949, attended Kalamazoo Community College, earning his associate’s of science degree. He married the love of his life, Katherine “Kit” (Kloosterman) May 22, 1951.
He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Greenland and Panama. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
He was a lifelong member and deacon of Hope Reformed Church in Kalamazoo. He also attended Manistee First United Methodist Church in Manistee, Michigan. During his winters on Anna Maria Island, he was active with CrossPointe Fellowship.
He loved singing in the choir, ushering, attending Bible study and enjoying the fellowship of friends. He delighted in attending the weekly breakfast meeting of the Anna Maria Island Kiwanis Club, in which he was an active member. He also was a member of American Legion Post 24, enjoyed being an usher for the Anna Maria Island Concert Chorus and Orchestra and served his community as the humorous bingo caller at Annie Silver Community Center in Bradenton Beach and as a bell-ringer for the Salvation Army.
He was proud to donate over 10 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross over the years and was known for his great recollection of people and dates. He would amuse family and friends with his good-natured humor and vivid storytelling.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at CrossPointe Fellowship in Holmes Beach. Services will be held at Hope Reformed Church in Kalamazoo in June.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kit; sons David and Tim and wife Laura; daughter Susan; daughter-in-law Marilyn; and grandchildren Sedona and husband Alan Crow of Michigan and Abrye of Australia.
