A woman who called police about a rear-end collision was blamed for the crash and promptly arrested.
Debra J. Alix, 55, of Bradenton, was arrested at 6:39 p.m. March 14 for driving under the influence and causing a rear-end collision.
An SUV had stopped for bicyclists in a crosswalk in the 6600 block of Marina Drive when the car being driven by Alix failed to stop, according to police reports and witness affidavits.
Alix asked about any injuries to the couple in the SUV, apologized and offered to call the police for the visitors who had no working phone, according to the witnesses’ affidavit.
Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and the Holmes Beach Police Department responded.
HBPD Officer Steve Ogline allegedly told MCSO Deputy William Coleman that Alix was at fault and impaired.
The MCSO deputy reported Alix said she had consumed a beer 20 minutes earlier. He also reported detecting the odor of alcohol.
Coleman arrested Alix after she failed field sobriety tests and Breathalyzer tests.
Alix also was ticketed for careless driving, driving while license was suspended and failing to change her address within 10 days of a move.
Alix’s court arraignment is set for 8:25 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
