A woman was stopped for speeding and charged with driving under the influence.
Kimberly C. Newton, 44, of Cortez, was arrested at about 1 a.m. Feb. 16 after a Manatee County sheriff’s deputy observed her driving 67 mph in a 45-mph zone, according to the deputy’s report.
At 7500 Cortez Road West, Newton’s vehicle swung wide as it made a right turn at 75th Street before coming to stop.
Newton told the deputy she had worked all day at the Cortez Commercial Fishing Festival, hadn’t eaten anything, but had three beers.
The deputy reported she appeared confused and disoriented.
After field sobriety exercises, Newton was arrested. She refused to offer breath samples.
Newton was booked at the Manatee County jail. She posted a $500 bond.
Her court arraignment is set for 8:25 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
