A former employee of a Holmes Beach restaurant was jailed for a second time in connection with a forgery case.
Chelsea Rose Maksimowicz, 27, of Bradenton, was arrested March 3 on a warrant for violating a court order that required a Feb. 26 appearance in 12th Judicial Circuit Court.
A seven-count forgery case had been set for a March trial, but Judge Andrew D. Owens Jr. transferred the case to drug court and ordered the Feb. 26 appearance.
The case began nearly a year ago after Wolfgang Jahn, owner of Old Hamburg Schnitzelhaus, 3246 E. Bay Drive, noticed unauthorized checking activity and filed a complaint with the Holmes Beach Police Department for $2,600 in forgeries by Maksimowicz.
The HBPD, Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and 12th Judicial Circuit Court State Attorney worked together to bring charges against Maksimowicz.
She was arrested in September 2014. In November, a case involving $1,815 in unauthorized checks was filed in court.
According to court records, Maksimowicz is being held without bond in Manatee County jail, pending the next available date in drug court.
On March 19, Jahn told The Islander that in three days he will be turning over the Old Hamburg Schnitzelhaus to new owners. He and wife Bridget plan on returning to Germany after the sale.
Jahn said he was unhappy with HBPD’s response to his complaint and no longer concerned about the case against Maksimowicz.
“What you do in your country with your criminals is up to you,” he added.
