A Holmes Beach man was arrested for possessing heroin. He apparently alerted police to paraphernalia after being stopped for driving a vehicle with an expired tag.
Longboat Key Police Department arrested William Ariss Brown, 29, March 15 in the 5300 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive on Longboat Key after determining he was driving a vehicle with an altered tag sticker on a revoked driver’s license.
“You will find paraphernalia in the car,” he told police, according to the affidavit of arresting Longboat Key Sgt. Randall Thompson.
Police allegedly found three small bags with an off-white residue that field-tested positive for alkaloids, less than 1 gram of marijuana, multiple syringes and several spoons.
Brown blamed his girlfriend, who was in jail at the time, for the drugs and paraphernalia, according to the affidavit. He alternatively told police that the paraphernalia was all hers and both of theirs.
Brown was transported to the Manatee County jail, posted $3,500 in bond and was released.
His arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Friday, April 17, at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
