Holmes Beach contracts Waste Pro, expect changes

Holmes Beach commissioners approved the first reading of a contract with Waste Pro at a special meeting April 8.

The 10-year contract would begin May 1, and the change in the solid-waste service provider means new schedules and rules will take effect.

According to Holmes Beach Mayor Bob Johnson, pick up services will occur four days a week. Current pick up is three days a week.

Monday and Fridays will be solid waste pickup. Waste Pro will collect recycling Tuesdays and yard waste Wednesdays.

Recycling in the city also will look different with the use 64-gallon single stream carts in place of blue bins.

Another major change, Johnson said, will be the number of solid-waste carts required at resort rentals, which will be determined by the number of bedrooms.

Residents also will have to pay to have large items picked up. According to David Schneider of Waste Pro, that fee would be added to the customer’s monthly bill.

Waste Management is the city’s current provider, and representatives from the company attended the meeting asking commissioners to reconsider its proposal. Waste Management failed to deliver a timely proposal before the deadline.

Attorney Brennan Donnelly of Messer Caparello, P.A, spoke on behalf of Waste Management. He asked the city reconsider and said they could still consider another proposal.

Holmes Beach received one proposal, that of Waste Pro, before its RFP deadline.

My account number is XXXXXX …..my first bill is INCORRECT. I am a residential and have ONLY 1 GALLON TOTER for garbage! My bill states different. And so does the amount. I’ve called and talked to Amanda on 6/17 and 6/19 and was assured tis problem would be corrected. At this time nothing has been done. This is being Documented and copied and sent to the City Of Holmes Beach. Due date for charge is June 19, 2015. I was told I have 30 days.
So I get it a new Service Company takes time to get adjusted. So I guess we will see how the next 30 days go?!

Anyone else have issues? just curious?
