After an early morning dog walk April 8, a man returned to his Bradenton Beach home to find a 7-year-old boy standing in his living room.
The man called 911 at 4:50 a.m. and Bradenton Beach Police Department dispatched Officer Jason Higgins to the 2200 block of Gulf Drive North.
The boy told Higgins he and his parents were on vacation from Colorado and his parents were sleeping.
Asked if he was a sleepwalker, the boy responded, “I walk around with my eyes open,” according to the BBPD report.
Higgins drove the child around Gulf Drive North and Avenue C to look for the parents and their vehicle.
According to the BBPD report, they were unable to locate the boy’s parents and so Higgins contacted a Florida Department of Children and Families caseworker who took the child into protective custody.
In the morning, the child’s parents discovered the boy missing and called 911, according to BBPD Detective Sgt. Lenard Diaz.
Diaz said BBPD connected the parents with the DCF and the boy and his parents were reunited.
