All in one dispatch to the Island Gourmet Grill parking lot, Holmes Beach police officers assisted a lost bicyclist, people needing directions and parking, a victim of an accident and an impaired driver.
The call began with Sgt. Mike Pilato and Officer Chip Frappier responding to man in a pickup that had crashed into the rear of a vehicle at 5910 Marina Drive.
Marcus Tunis, 59, of Bradenton, was arrested April 26 for DUI, DUI causing property damage and obstructing a police officer.
Pilato asked Tunis for his license, registration and insurance and, in response, the man handed over money, a credit card and then a business card, although his insurance and license were in plain view, according to the HBPD.
While officers were gathering witness statements, Tunis was ordered to stay in his vehicle, but walked away several times. He was handcuffed and put in the police truck, where he allegedly urinated and fell over in the seat.
According to the police report, while on the call with Tunis in the parking lot, motorists approached the officers asking about parking and directions.
A man on a bike also asked for directions.
Shortly thereafter, an alert came over the police radio about a male bicyclist from Longboat Key with possible memory problems. Longboat Key police were summoned to the scene and the bicyclist was transferred into their care.
Meanwhile, Tunis was transported to Manatee County jail, where he refused to give a breath sample.
Tunis reported to the intake officer at the jail that he had diabetes and had taken an anti-diabetic drug “a day or two ago.”
He posted $1,500 bond and was released from jail.
Tunis will be arraigned Thursday, May 28, at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
