Frederick K. ‘Freddie’ Welch
Frederick K. “Freddie” Welch, 91, of Holmes Beach, formerly of Andover, Maine, died May 10.
He was a World War II and Korean War veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired as a police pfficer in Andover.
He was was married 43 years to his late wife Helen.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Holmes Beach. Donations may be made to the VFW Post 10141, Bradenton.
Mr. Welch is survived by his children, Frederick K. Jr., Pam Benham, Jill, William, Robyn Bensinger and Matthew; sister Evelyn Shea; 10 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Leonard Douglas Yates Jr.
Leonard Douglas Yates Jr., 86, died May 3. He was born Dec. 13, 1928, in Washington, D.C., and moved from Vienna, Virginia to Bradenton in 1968.
He married Valerie Brown Yates and they resided in Live Oak for the past 27 years. They had six children — three boys and three girls.
Mr. Yates was an electrical contractor, builder and real estate agent/investor. He built the landmark Tropic Isle in Bradenton Beach. He was an actor with the Manatee Players, Island Players and past president of Island Players.
A celebration of life will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd St. W., Bradenton. Survivors include children Deborah Bird of Myakka, April Mathews of Duncan, South Carolina, Patricia Stanton of Temple Terrace, Charles D. and Robert R. of Live Oak; grandchildren Adam Spencer, Leonard D. III, Austin Bell, Mary Willard, Lauren Baldwin, Devon Conway, Kyla, Brensen, Levi, Clark and Kimberly Martin; five great-grandchildren; very special niece Deanna Williams of Sandy Level, Virginia; and his only friend, Rick Brown of Gulf Port.
