The State Attorney in the 12th Judicial Circuit reduced charges against a Bradenton man who deputies saw leave a bedroom before a woman crawled out — her eye swollen shut and mouth bleeding.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Adam E. Williams, 41, in Cortez for alleged domestic battery by strangulation and false imprisonment.
Assistant State Attorney Alexandra Crittenden said May 22 the felony battery was dropped because the victim told the prosecutor Williams did not impede her airway. The false imprisonment charge was dropped because the victim did not want to cooperate with the prosecution, she said.
The evidence supported filing a battery charge and transferring the case to the misdemeanor division, Crittenden said.
Williams’ bond, originally set at $100,000, was reduced May 27 to $5,000.
At press time for The Islander, Williams remained in custody at the Manatee County jail.
Williams was arrested in January on a separate domestic violence incident, a case prosecutors closed in March because the victim declined to cooperate.
His next court date is set for June 16 at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
