Man pleads to felony battery

A 22-year-old man accused of beating a man on a walk in Anna Maria a year ago pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 24 months probation.

Cameron Bowen Ellsworth was arrested in December 2014 by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant in connection with a June 2014 attack in the 400 block of Spring Avenue.

Wet footprints on Lakeview Drive and blood behind the city public works area led the MCSO to investigate Ellsworth.

He had faced five years in state prison on one count of felony battery.

Twelfth Circuit Judge Diana Moreland accepted Ellsworth’s plea June 17 and withheld his conviction pending a successful probation.

Ellsworth’s sentence includes 50 hours of community service, a 12-week anger-management course, a restitution reservation of 60 days and court costs.
