Two men were arrested Aug. 24 for theft from the Publix Super Market on Anna Maria Island.
Everett A. Hodapp, 45, and George William Webster, 55, both of Bradenton Beach, were arrested by the Holmes Beach Police Department for allegedly stealing groceries.
At about 2 p.m., they allegedly filled a shopping cart with $134.98 in groceries and left the store at 3900 E. Bay Drive, Holmes Beach, without paying.
The report said when confronted by store employees, Webster fled on foot. He was met while walking with grocery bags by HBPD Chief Bill Tokajer and Sgt. Mike Pilato in the 3300 block of East Bay Drive, where he was arrested by HBPD Officer Joel Pierce.
A manager accompanied Hodapp into the store, where Pierce again made an arrest.
The two men face charges of felony theft due to histories of similar offenses.
They were transported and booked at the Manatee County jail.
In jail, Hodapp and Webster were re-arrested for another theft from the same Publix the day before. They allegedly put three cases of Bud Light in a shopping cart by the exit door, waited for employees to leave the area and left the store with the beer without paying.
At their first court appearances, they were assigned public defenders.
At The Islander press time, they remained in jail on $3,000 in bonds.
Their next court date is Sept. 25 at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
