Holmes Beach woman arrested for DUI

Holmes Beach Police Department and Manatee County Sheriff’s Office combined to make the arrest of a 21-year-old woman for driving under the influence after her car drifted into a bike lane on Gulf Drive and crossed the centerline on Manatee Avenue.

Stephanie M. Schenk of Holmes Beach was arrested at 2:14 a.m. Sept. 29 by the MCSO in the 3900 block of East Bay Drive after Holmes Beach Police Officer Alan Bores allegedly observed her vehicle swerve as it traveled from Gulf Drive to Manatee Avenue and onto East Bay Drive.

Two deputies arrived and found Schenk crying in her vehicle and detected a strong odor of alcohol, according to the MCSO reports.

“I had a few shots,” she told one deputy, according to the report.

After failing field sobriety tests, Schenk was arrested and transported to the Manatee County jail.

On the way, she allegedly began screaming. She also banged her head on the patrol car window. Police stopped at Manatee Memorial Hospital to check her, secure her seatbelt and then continued to the jail, where Schenk provided two breath tests, measuring 0.192 and 0.189. The legal blood-alcohol limit is 0.08.

At her first appearance, the court ordered pre-trial probation, requiring she attend court hearings and not leave the surrounding nine counties without permission from the court.

Schenk pleaded not guilty to the DUI.

Her arraignment is set for Nov. 2 at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
