A Bradenton motorist who allegedly drifted over the center lane and into the bike lane in Holmes Beach was arrested for driving impaired and ticketed for failing to stay in the driving lane.
Holmes Beach Police Officer Alan Bores stopped Efrain Becerra, 26, at about 11 p.m. Nov. 18 after following the vehicle from the 5200 block of Gulf Drive onto Manatee Avenue West, eastward over the Anna Maria Island Bridge to the Neal Preserve entrance on Perico Island.
Upon approaching the motorist, Bores allegedly noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. He reported the driver had bloodshot eyes. According to an HBPD report, Becerra told the officer he was smoking marijuana before the officer stopped him.
Becerra performed poorly on field tests and was transported to the Manatee County jail, where he provided refused a urine test, according to the report.
He was released after posting a $500 bond.
The 12th Judicial Circuit Office of the State Attorney charged Becerra Dec. 1 with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs with prior conviction.
His court arraignment is set for Dec. 21 at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
