Arrested for driving impaired, a belligerent Cortez man kicked out a window in the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office vehicle on his way to jail.
Steven C. Scott, 33, was arrested by the MCSO for criminal damage to property, driving under the influence of alcohol and resisting arrest without violence.
Holmes Beach Police Officer Michael Walker first observed Scott driving south, crossing into a bicycle lane, in the 3800 block of Gulf Drive. Walker turned on his emergency lights to stop Scott’s vehicle when it turned into the Anchor Inn parking lot.
According to the MCSO arrest report, as Scott exited the vehicle and walked toward the tavern, the officer noticed an odor of alcohol and his bloodshot, watery eyes.
When MCSO Deputy Michael Makai arrived, Scott became argumentative and was placed in a MCSO patrol car, according to the police report.
The report stated that as law enforcement searched Scott’s vehicle, Scott kicked the side window of the MCSO vehicle, screaming that police needed a warrant and were violating his civil rights.
Scott shattered the glass of the patrol car window, valued at $500, while being transported to Manatee County jail.
Scott was booked at the jail and released on $1,500 bond.
His arraignment is set for Dec. 22 at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
