Sunday storm closed Rod & Reel Pier

The Rod & Reel Pier was closed to diners and anglers Jan. 17 after the pier and water pipes were damaged during the high winds and surf resulting from an early morning storm.

Dave Cochran, Rod & Reel Restaurant general manager, said he didn’t know when the restaurant and pier would reopen.

“We’re trying to get the water line reattached and I’m trying to get my dock guy out here to shore up part of the pier,” Cochran said. “We want to make sure everything’s safe before we reopen.”

An area of the pier deck, near the row of tables along the north side near the restaurant, was damaged. Cochran said a large dip in the pier was evident, but the wooden structure wasn’t in danger of collapsing.

Cochran said the pier will remain closed to the public until everything has been repaired.
