A relative of a 16-year-old girl runaway led police to her whereabouts in Bradenton Beach.
The tip was called into 911.
The family, vacationing from Maine, had been staying at the Via Roma Beach Resort, 2408 Gulf Drive N., Bradenton Beach, when she left them the morning of March 24.
Several posts by the family and others on social media sent out alarms for the girl’s safety.
Bradenton Beach police officers found her based on the 911-tip March 25 near Joe’s Eats and Sweets, 219 Gulf Drive S., according to BBPD Officer Eric Hill.
BBPD responded at about 4:30 p.m. to “keep the peace” while the girl was safely returned to her family, Hill said.
The Islander was notified about the missing girl by a local social media director for a community organization.
BBPD Detective Sgt. Lenard Diaz said the family has left town and an investigation is pending as to where the girl was and what took place during the time she was missing.
