After rear-ending a vehicle in Bradenton, a Holmes Beach man in a pickup truck was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
William Shawn Wilkes, 56, allegedly told police he was on his way to Holmes Beach after an appointment and stopped to drink.
According to a Bradenton Police Department report, an officer found Wilkes at about 1 a.m. Feb. 28 sitting in a parking lot in the 4300 block of Manatee Avenue West in front of his truck.
Wilkes’ truck had severe front-end damage and the rear of the other vehicle sustained heavy damage, according to the report.
Wilkes and the other driver declined medical emergency services.
Wilkes was apologetic and told the victim and the officer he was at fault, according to the BPD police report.
He was transported and booked at the Manatee County jail, where he offered breath samples, measuring 0.180 and 0.176. The legal limit is 0.08.
He posted $500 bond and was released.
Wilkes also is facing a trial in connection with an August 2015 crash in Holmes Beach. He pleaded not guilty to charges of fleeing and eluding a marked law enforcement vehicle, possessing cocaine and DUI with property damages after driving into a mailbox on Key Royale Drive. His next court date on the Holmes Beach case is June 28.
His first court date on the Bradenton DUI charge is at 8:25 a.m. Monday, April 4, at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
