Ryan Michael Carlson
Ryan Michael Carlson, formerly of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Anna Maria Island, died March 4. He was born Feb. 16, 1985.
He was a devoted father to son Canaan and enjoyed spending his days off as “daddy day care.”
From a young age, he loved cooking and would stand on a chair in his grandmother’s kitchen, learning all he could, under the watchful eye of his grandfather. Starting from the age of 14, he was working in a kitchen, and he never left. His jobs took him to Colorado, Texas, Florida and most recently Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where he met his fiance, Anna.
When he wasn’t in the kitchen, he loved being on the golf course or the beach. He loved his time on Cape Cod and Anna Maria Island boat days.
He was a diehard Tampa Bay sports fan and loathed the New England Patriots. He loved playing sports, especially basketball, and won a Gus Macker tournament when he was 15.
Visitation will be held March 10 at Hahn Funeral Home in Mishawaka and a service will be held March 11 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kevin Bauman officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Canaan J. Carlson Trustee Account, c/o TD Bank, 249 Worcester Court, Falmouth, MA 02540.
He is survived by son Canaan James; fiancé Anna Sabella of Oak Buff, Massachusetts; mother Kathy Talbot of Homes Beach; father Ted III of South Bend, Indiana; brother Ted IV and wife Maggie and their son Ted V of Homes Beach; sister Krystin of Homes Beach; sisters Rachael and Jillian both of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandmother Joyce Freed Mishawaka; grandfather Ted II and wife Donna Lee of Boca Raton; dear friend JD White; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Margaret Craig DeMott
Margaret Craig DeMott, 91, of Anna Maria, died March 3.
Arrangements are being handled by Mortuary Services of Florida.
Emily Theaman Gross
Emily Theaman Gross, 67, of Holmes Beach, died Feb. 29 after a six-year battle with cancer.
She was born in Brooklyn, New York.
She loved the color purple, walking the beach for Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch and Shorebird Monitoring, her weekly massages and dark chocolate with a glass of red wine.
She was an award-winning quilter who always chose tea over coffee and she proudly said her favorite recipe was making reservations.
She was a devoted wife and mother. She spent mornings at swim meets, evenings at band competitions and weekends at NASCAR races.
She was an active member of Vienna and McLean Quilters Unlimited, Vienna Night Owls, Sarasota Friendship Knot Quilters, Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch and Shorebird Monitoring, Manatee Patchworkers Quilters and Sunshine Stitchers of Holmes Beach.
Her energy and positive outlook was infectious.
A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Seafood Shack, 4110 127th St W, Cortez.

Richard Papini
Richard Papini died Feb. 26. He was born June 5, 1947, in Chicago.
He was an engineer.
He moved to Florida from Chicago in 1979 and found his way to Anna Maria Island, where he became a member of the Key Royale Club and met many people, made many great friends and enjoyed his happiest years.
Survivors include wife Sharon, sons Brett and wife Anna of Colorado and Michael Webb and his fiancé of Brandon; and grandchildren Madison, Mikenzie and Logan.
