A 21-year-old man arrested for failing to pay a taxi driver in Bradenton also faces a charge for a burglary in Holmes Beach.
Zane Butler of Bradenton was served a warrant for the May 15 break-in while incarcerated at the Manatee County jail for the alleged cab fare theft.
A witness had observed Butler at 1:50 p.m. a day earlier, May 14, breaking and entering a home in the 100 block of 74th Street, according to a Holmes Beach police report.
Butler allegedly asked him for water before the witness saw him remove an air conditioner, enter the home and then flee on foot.
The witness called the HBPD and, when officers arrived, they found a bottle of beer on a counter, but no suspect. The officers took fingerprints.
The witness identified Butler from a Facebook picture and the HBPD asked the state attorney to issue an arrest warrant.
Later that day, Butler was arrested by the Bradenton Police Department for allegedly failing to pay cab fare from Anna Maria Island to the 2200 block of Manatee Avenue in Bradenton.
Butler was assigned a supervised release and $2,500 bond on the burglary charge. On the theft of transit fare, he was assigned a $500 bond.
Butler’s court arraignment on both charges is set for 9 a.m. Friday, June 17, at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
