It’s the end of the road for a proposed bed-and-breakfast in Holmes Beach, at least for now.
Holmes Beach residents Bob and Liz Lang submitted a letter to city leaders via their attorney April 13, asking the city to consider allowing them to turn their seven-bedroom, six-bath home at 5601 Flotilla Drive into a B&B.
The home is located in the R-1 zoning district, which would require the creation and implementation of a new property use classification for bed-and-breakfast establishments in that zone.
The property owner claims the property has been rented monthly since December 2015 as a vacation rental, based on the rental requirements for the R-1 zone.
Holmes Beach Mayor Bob Johnson responded May 9 to the letter, saying that city staff would not entertain the request at this time.
“That request is not a priority for our staff,” Johnson said.
Bob Lang was disappointed by the response. “It’s back to square one,” he said.
