4 for 2 AM commission seats, mayor unchallenged

Anna Maria’s two-week election qualifying period closed June 24 with four people running for two commission seats in the Nov. 8 election.

David Youngs and Brian Seymour entered the race, along with incumbents Chuck Webb and Nancy Yetter.

Mayor Dan Murphy, also up for re-election, is unchallenged and will retain his post for a second term.

The two challengers live and work in the city.

Youngs owns an IT business and Seymour owns and manages the Anna Maria General Store on Pine Avenue.

Youngs also is a member of the city planning and zoning board.

Webb, an attorney, has served the commission on and off for 10 years. He was first elected in 2002 and left after a two-year term. He returned to the commission in 2008.

Anna Maria’s elected officials serve two-year terms without term limits. Candidates must live in the city for two consecutive years and be registered voters before qualifying.

The mayor’s annual salary is $19,596 and commissioners earn $4,800 a year.

The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 8 election is Oct. 11.
