A new judge granted new pretrial conditions Aug. 18 to a man arrested in Holmes Beach for aggravated assault with a firearm.
Gerald A. Harles II has been free on a $50,000 bond since his May 31 arrest outside a home in the 500 block of 68th Street, where he resided with his parents.
In addition to the bond, 12th Circuit Judge Susan B. Maulucci ordered court supervision and allowed non-harmful contact with parents Judy and Gerald Harles.
Maulucci was assigned the case after Judge Deno Economou disqualified himself.
At a July hearing, the judge referenced an HBPD police report and questioned the truth of Judy Harles’ testimony. Harles’ attorney Peter Lombardo filed for the disqualification.
The parents each had called 911, seeking help with their son.
In a call from Gerald Harles, dispatch was told the son was threatening to kill them — prompting more than 40 law enforcement officers from Holmes Beach and the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office to respond.
Also part of Maulucci’s order, she ordered Harles II to submit to random urinalysis, take no illegal drugs, consume no alcohol and possess no firearms or weapons.
Formal charges have not been filed in the case.
The state attorney has 175 days from an arrest to file a felony charge and 90 days to file a misdemeanor charge.
