The youth soccer league at the Center of Anna Maria Island continues to produce competitive matches — evident by the standings, especially in the 6-7 and 8-10 divisions.
The 6-7-year-old division is really tight with the top three teams separated by a game. Air & Energy is holding down the top spot with a 4-2-1 record, just ahead of Bin There Dumped That and Signarama, both 3-3-1. Blalock Walters completes the standings at 1-5-1.
Bins Be Clean with a 5-2 record holds down first place in the 8-10 division in front of Mason Martin Builders at 4-3. Gulf-Bay Realty is alone in third with a 3-4 record, while Cloud Pest Control follows at 2-5.
The 11-14 division is seemingly set in stone for Planet Stone. They are 5-1, comfortably in front of Progressive Cabinetry at 2-2-2. Tyler’s Ice Cream follows at 1-4-2.
Progressive Cabinetry and Tyler’s Ice Cream battled to a 3-3 tie during 11-14 division action Nov. 1. Nick DeWitt scored two goals and Tuna McCracken had a goal and three saves to lead Progressive Cabinetry in the tie.
Tyler Brewer led Tyler’s Ice Cream with three goals, while Thomas Heckler made nine saves between the pipes.
Planet Stone showed they’re the team to beat the following evening, rolling to a 6-2 victory over Progressive Cabinetry with two goals each from Jack Barnes and Nick Cavaluzzi. Bryce Higgins and Chris Snyder added one goal each in the victory.
David Daigle and Nick DeWitt scored a goal each to lead Progressive, which also received four saves from Conor Ludwig in the loss.
Bins Be Clean edged Gulf-Bay Realty 3-2 to open the 8-10 division action Nov. 8. Riley Lawson notched a hat trick to lead Bins Be Clean on offense, while Evan Talucci finished with seven saves in the victory.
Gregory Jordan and Dante Tilelli scored a goal each to lead Gulf-Bay in the loss.
Mason Martin Builders scored a 4-3 victory over Cloud Pest Control in the second match of the evening. Mason Agnelli’s three goals led the way and Jackson Pakbaz added a goal. Dalton Fox helped preserve the victory with seven saves in goal.
Frankie Coleman scored two goals and Aiden Templeton added one to lead Cloud Pest Control in the loss.
Signarama scored a 2-0 shutout victory over Blalock Walters in 6-7 division action Nov. 7. Reeshma Barnes and Conor Samblis scored a goal each to lead Signarama in the victory.
The second game of the evening saw Air & Energy and Bin There Dumped That battle to a 3-3 tie. Charlie Rogers scored two goals and Jack McCarthy added one to lead A&E, while Ewan Cloutier scored three goals to lead Bin There.
Adult soccer action
Adult soccer at the Center of Anna Maria put a second week of action on the books with four games played Nov. 10.
Acqua Aveda opened the night’s action with a 5-4 victory over Wash Family Construction behind two goals each from Nate Talucci and Nathan Kragt. Sean Flynn added a goal and an assist, while Eric Pullen contributed three assists in the victory.
Alf Klotz led Wash Family Construction with two goals, and Kris Yavalar and Chelsea Hoffner each scored a goal in the loss.
Mason Martin Builders rolled to a 9-4 victory over Slim’s Place behind four goals from Frank Agnelli and three goals from Ted Hurst. Lexi Sato came up with two goals in the victory, while Anthony Barberio, Nick Sato and Tara Stutts contributed assists.
Chris Klotz scored two goals on assists from Andre Lewis to lead Slim’s in the loss.
The third game of the evening saw Ross Built and Anna Maria CrossFit battle to a 4-4 tie. Kevin Roman scored two goals and Chris Circharo and Stetson Matthews added a goal each to lead Ross Built.
Rico Beissert and Will Kretzman scored two goals each to even up CrossFit.
Jiffy Lube slipped past Eason Builders Group 5-4 behind two goals each from Shay Coleman and Vince Circharo. Murat Akay added a goal for Jiffy Lube, which received assists from Circharo, Tony Shard and Coleman in the victory.
Blair Schlossberg scored two goals to lead Eason Builders. He was helped in the loss by a goal each from Scott Eason and Shea Yates.
Key Royale golf news
Over 50 golfers participated in Stag Day Nov. 3 at Key Royale Club that included morning and afternoon rounds of golf sandwiched by lunch in the clubhouse.
The team of Gary Silke, Barry Fenstermacher, Tony Butzek and Bob Longworth combined on a 3-over-par 131 to post the best low-net score in the morning, while Merritt Fineout, Dennis Schavey, Dave Richardson and Barry Izzard had a 10-over-par 138 to best the afternoon scores.
Jim Auch’s 5-under-par 27 was the best low-net score in the morning, while Barry Izzard’s 4-under-par 28 was the best individual score for the afternoon players.
Fineout grabbed the closest-to-the-pin contest on the third hole.
The men were back on the course Nov. 7 for a nine-hole modified Stableford-system or quota-points match.
Barry Izzard led all golfers with a plus-5, while Bill Shuman came in second on a plus-2.
The team of Herb Clauhs, Mike Gillie, Tom Nelson and Earl Ritchie combined on a plus-2 to win the team competition.
The women took to the tees Nov. 8 for an Election Day match. They played an individual low-net match from the blue tees and used red or white tees to celebrate their right to vote.
Playing her first round, Andi Sala carded a 3-under-par 29 to take first place in Flight A. Debi Wohlers was three strokes back in second place with an even-par 32.
Penny Williams and Meredith Slavin carded 3-over-par 35s to share first place in Flight B.
The men played a nine-hole team scramble Nov. 9 that saw the team of John Cassese, Tom Nelson, Bob Reid and Quentin Talbert combine on a 4-under-par 28 for bragging rights for the day.
Horseshoe news
Walkers dominated last week’s horseshoe action at the Anna Maria City Hall horseshoe pits.
On Nov. 9, Bob Mason walked his way to the only 3-0 pool-play record, earning the day’s undisputed championship.
Nov. 12 action saw two teams emerge from pool play. Walker Bob Palmer threw four double ringers and pitched a shutout on his way to a 22-0 victory over Karl Thomas and Jay Disbrow.
Play gets underway at 9 a.m. every Wednesday and Saturday at the Anna Maria City Hall pits. Warmups begin at 8:45 a.m. followed by random team selection. There is no charge to play and everyone is welcome.
