Walter S. Zahn
Walter S. Zahn, 84, died Jan. 5, one week before his 85th birthday.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he served in the Army Reserves for 10 years while earning his electrical engineering degree.
He moved to New Jersey and raised a family while working for Bell Labs in the telecommunications industry.
Upon his retirement, he moved to Anna Maria Island, where he enjoyed hobbies of ship building and model railroads. He also was active in Save Anna Maria Inc. during the fight to halt a mega-bridge to replace the Anna Maria Island Bridge in the early 1990s.

He is survived by sons Christopher (Kent) and Scott (Joell); five grandchildren, nieces, nephews and multiple friends.
Edward Stanley Rawson
Edward Stanley Rawson, 58, died Jan. 4 at home in Ellenton. He was born Feb. 11, 1958 in Warren, Ohio, to Marcella Rawson of Ellenton and the late Stanley Rawson of Anna Maria.
He possessed a larger than life personality and an adventurous spirit. He loved sailing Hobie cats in the Gulf of Mexico, owning planes and flying from Airport Manatee.

A celebration of life will be held 4-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at Manasota Memorial Park, 1221 53rd Ave. E., Bradenton.
Manasota Memorial Park and Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by daughter Kathryn and her mother, Rebecca, of Bradenton; his mother, Marcella, of Ellenton, and brother Rod of Parrish.
