A Ruskin man was arrested in Holmes Beach Feb. 26 for alleged aggravated assault against a police officer and another person.
Jeovani Aguila, 23, was allegedly seen displaying road rage in the 4300 block of Gulf Drive.
According to the police report, he tried to pass a vehicle in the bicycle lane. When a man in another vehicle honked his horn at Aguila, the suspect allegedly got out of his vehicle and threatened the other motorist with a large “pipe-type object.”
Aguila was said to have returned to his car and left the scene while the other motorist spotted a Holmes Beach police officer and reported the incident.
Aguila, driving a green Chevrolet Malibu, was then seen entering the CVS parking lot in the 3900 block of East Bay Drive.
An officer investigated and found the vehicle unlocked and unattended.
The police report said Aguila and a female passenger had abandoned the vehicle and were seen approaching the Publix super market adjacent to CVS at the corner of East Bay Drive and Manatee Avenue.
The officer followed them into the Publix and tried to apprehend Aguila, who resisted arrest and attempted to choke the officer, according to the report.
Another officer arrived and together the officers arrested Aguila, who was transported to the Manatee County jail.
His passenger gave a statement and was released.
Aguila’s car was searched and officers reported finding a pack of herbal cigarettes “to be tested for remnants of synthetic marijuana” and empty alcohol cans in the backseat. Officers also reported finding a plastic bag with white residue that tested positive for cocaine.
