State drops machete case stemming from Cortez arrest

The state declined to charge a man who allegedly threatened another man at a dock in Cortez.

A Manatee County sheriff’s deputy arrested Allen Jacobsen in August for aggravated assault for allegedly wielding a machete in the parking lot of the Star Fish Co. Dockside Restaurant, 12306 46th Ave. W., Cortez.

During the pre-filing investigation, the victim refused to speak with an assistant state attorney unless the state’s representative went to his boat.

A 12th Circuit State Attorney’s Sept. 17 memo concluded the state had insufficient evidence to prove the case because Jacobsen denied the charge and there were no witnesses or video.
