Anthony F. “Tony” Manion, 89, of Anna Maria, and formerly of Bethel, Connecticut, died May 21 at Tidewell Hospice of Lakewood Ranch.
The son of Anthony Sr. and Mary (Halpin), he was born March 2, 1931, in Danbury, Connecticut.
He lived and grew up in Bethel, graduating from Bethel High School in 1948.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
After his discharge in 1953, he enrolled in the University of Bridgeport and was employed for several years by Dursi Motors in Danbury.
He married Mary A. Stannard of Winsted, Connecticut, June 28, 1958, and the couple settled on Milwaukee Avenue in Bethel in 1960.
He was in sales most of his life, first with car dealerships and later he was employed by Read’s Department Store and then at Macy’s in menswear.
He retired from there in 1994.
Mr. Manion was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Pavia Council at St. Mary’s Church in Bethel. His grandfather, John Halpin, was a member of the building committee of the old St Mary’s and he was a member of the building committee for the newer church. He also was a church usher for many years.
In 2014, he and his wife moved to Anna Maria, where he was a parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Holmes Beach.
A Mass was celebrated May 29, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 248 S. Harbor Drive, Holmes Beach. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Manion is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary; son Anthony F. III and wife Svetlana of Moscow, Russia; grandchildren Angela Margaret, Anthony “Tosha” IV and Taicia “Taya,” all of Moscow; cousins Cynthia Halpin Istvan of Trumbull, Connecticut, Mary Ellen Sanford of Redding Ridge, Connecticut, and Richard Smith of Weston, Connecticut.

Bradley B. Smith, 57, of Greencastle, Pennsylvania. and Bradenton Beach, died Tuesday, May 26.
He was born May 3, 1963.
He was a 1981 graduate from Greencastle-Antrim High School. He was involved in track and field and football.
Outside of school, he was involved in boxing at the Boys and Girls Club in Hagerstown, Maryland.
He studied gemology at the International Gemological Institute in Silver Spring, Maryland.
He furthered his career by going to Jewelry Manufacturing at Bowman Technical School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
With the knowledge that he gained, he opened BBS Jewelers in Greencastle in 1986. His store will remain open as his legacy.
He also owned Bridge Street Jewelers in Bradenton Beach with his wife.
In his early days, he enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing and setting up at flea markets on the weekends.
His other hobbies and interest were horse races, beach and boating in Florida. He enjoyed spending time with friends and, he was always good at putting a smile on everyone’s face by cracking a joke.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife Kersandra Quinn; children Jessica Scott and Rochelle; stepchildren Brandt and Katelyn Clark; grandchildren Alaziya, Landon, Lillian, Madilyn and Georgina; mother, Beverly; and nephew Mathew.
