Bradenton man arrested by HBPD for DUI, drugs

A Bradenton man was arrested in the early morning hours Oct. 17 for driving under the influence of alcohol and drug possession in Holmes Beach.

Nikolas Ward, 23, was arrested at 1:40 a.m. in the 3000 block of Gulf Drive by a Holmes Beach police officer.

According to the HBPD report, the officer observed Ward take a wide left turn, with tires on the passenger side of the vehicle off the grass, as he turned onto Manatee Avenue from Gulf Drive. The officer stopped the motorist and reported Ward smelled of alcohol and his speech was slurred.

The officer conducted a field sobriety test, which Ward failed. He refused to provide a breath sample.

Upon searching Ward, the officer found nine Diazepam pills prescribed to someone else and a baggy that contained 0.9 grams of cocaine.

Ward was cited for failure to maintain a single lane and arrested for DUI and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony.

He was transported to the Manatee County jail and released that next day on a $3,120 bond.

Ward’s arraignment was set for Nov. 13.
