Sarasota man arrested for exposure in Holmes Beach

A 50-year-old Sarasota man was arrested Nov. 6 by Holmes Beach police for two counts of exposing his sexual organ, a first-degree misdemeanor.

HBPD officers were dispatched to a call at 4:20 p.m. on the beach in the 100 block of White Avenue of a male exposing his genitalia and fondling himself.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with two juveniles who said they saw the man near the dunes, adjusting his pants and rubbing himself.

Officers spotted the suspect near the Peppertree Lane beach access, petting a gopher tortoise, with his penis exposed. The officers explained to him that he was being detained for showing his penis to underage children.

The juveniles completed affidavits and notified their parents of the incident.

When HBPD officers transported the man to meet Manatee County sheriff’s deputies, he claimed he had been exposed to the novel coronavirus and was taken to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton for a rapid test, which was negative.

The man was arrested, taken to the Manatee County jail and posted $5,000 bail Nov. 8.

His arraignment was set for Dec. 9.
