Carl Augostini and Lynn Brennan received Anna Maria Distinguished Citizen of the Year awards Feb. 25 in appreciation of their efforts to enrich the city.

Augostini was honored during a city commission meeting for his generosity in rebuilding bicycles for donation to islanders, as well as using his expertise to repair neighbors’ golf carts and scooters while “never asking for compensation.”

“I just think that young kids that can’t afford a bike should have bikes and that’s what I do,” Augostini said when he accepted the award. “I get them from junk piles. People just drop them off. I just go ahead rebuild them and repaint them and they go to kids at Christmas, put a smile on their face.”

The city honored Brennan for her longtime dedication to assisting residents in need through volunteer organizations in the city.

Committee members Bob Carter, Doug Copeland and Marsha McAllister agreed unanimously to award two recipients this year.
