Red tide persists in region

In Southwest Florida, a bloom of the red tide organism persists.

Karenia brevis was detected in 52 samples the week ending June 20, including background to medium concentrations in Manatee County.

Also, background to high concentrations were in Pinellas County, very low to medium concentrations in Hillsborough County, background concentrations in Sarasota County, low concentrations in Charlotte County, background to very low concentrations in Lee County and background to very low concentrations in Collier County.

Fish kills suspected to be related to red tide were reported in Pinellas, Hillsborough and Manatee counties. Including snapper and mullet in Palmetto.

Respiratory irritation suspected to be related to red tide was reported in Pinellas County.
